Digital Collage

This is my new effort with Photoshop and Digital Collage. This is another effort to focus on using this site and integrating my work. On this work I have taken poetry I have written and combined it with butterflies and a single flower together with layer coloring to create this design.

Sale of Paintings

After working through the ‘how to’ on offering my original paintings, I have been able to provide a client with two gouache paintings. The ease of PayPal has allowed us both to expedite the transaction.

These works were created in 1990 and 1992. They are gouache works and were built for use in my licensing program. They have been sitting in my flat file archives for quite some time until my client discovered my site. Everything has been in such a state of transition this year that I wonder how he managed to find me. I use to paint images like these for a trade show I did in Los Angeles twice a year for 10 years during the 80s. I sold about 40 or 50 original paintings to retailers for their shops or personal collections every year and I sold many prints of the works which I created for the trade show. Miracle, in 2009 this client who has collected my works found my site and now these two cat works have a home.

CREATIF LICENSING

I have been quite busy and in a most unexpected way. I have just signed with Creatif Licensing to represent all my work for licensing. I have known Marcy Silverman, VP, from the very start of my time in licensing and I have known Paul Cohen, Pres., for nearly as long. It is a real pleasure to turn my collection over to them for it provides me with the ease of separation and opens the path to new work. I am thrilled.

Now, I must start rearranging this site a bit and this time really start painting again.

Working Material for Shops

Trying to coordinate this portfolio is hard. The structure and and program have been created. Great, the only thing is trying to hit all the bases still has not been reached. However, these new shoe designs for Halloween have been put together and things along that avenue have worked out. It is how to touch all the bases in a reasonable time frame that eludes me at the moment.

HOL138 PARTY TIME (three little witches)

This last design, HOL138, was completely re-done for this shoe design. Some of the designs are easily adapted while others require much more time and sometimes the use of other designs which will coordinate with the look. Both of these come from the MARY PARKER HALLOWEEN PORTFOLIO. I build coordinating products and apparel to go with the main design. This image is in progress. The products will be in HALLOWEEN NIGHT.

Halloween Images

HOL220 JACK PUMPKIN

This day has not been quite what I had in mind but it is Monday. This image is one I have selected for Halloween products such as tote bags, tiles, cards, and the like all to be coordinated with shoes. I had a very successful morning and crated all in great time and PHOTOSHOP CS3 obliged by crashing when I pressed SAVE @#@$#%#@@# I did however get some t-shirts and the shoes but the real work was lost. So when I get a better attitude, I will done it over and all will be well. The shoes will be in SHOES DU JOUR when they come down the product approval line which should be in about 24 hours. The apparel and other products will be in HALLOWEEN NIGHT tomorrow.

Just Had a Crash

I just had a real CRASH. Everything was lost. I have this on a Belkin with backup and surge protection and it just turned off and there was nothing.

I am trying to learn how to put the site into Google’s verification system. I thought that I had already done this but perhaps I placed the code in a wrong place and nothing has been going on for all this while.

The Gallery blogs are running successfully. Now, it is this brain strain trying to string them all together and get the material out where it will do some good. You know, a trout line!

ACTIVATING HALLOWEEN

July arrived here with a lot of activity and I have been going in circles.

This is the month which I turn on the OCTOBER 31 and CHRISTMAS PIZZAZZ blogs. Today I have entered a rundown of a design, HOL210, which was edited for cards, products, apparel and shoes. The name I gave to the design is THERE SHE GOES and it is also available for purchase. Putting this all together and making it work with all the links has been interesting for me but a challenge for the materials to be done properly. I have the Gallery entries, which are the works available for sale, all down pat but the regular blogs are still presenting their problems.

HOL210
THERE SHE GOES, HOL210

This is the program: I post the works available for purchase in the AM, Tweet them and Tweet a picture of the image. That takes about 15 minutes. Next I must work on some design for products (this can take more than I like but until I am more proficient, it will take time) and upload to the shop(s).

Because I have not only the Halloween shop, HALLOWEEN NIGHT, but a Christmas shop, CHRISTMAS DEPOT, and a rustic lodge, COBBLY NOB, an exotic wild animal skin shop, WILD, and an everyday shop, SHOP DU JOUR, I have my hands full. Working out the system is the challenge and I will get it accomplished. Perhaps some sort of rotation could be accomplished so that I could cover all the shops with new work. Well, now you know why I am running in circles!

GARDEN PATCH WORK DESIGN

July is here and the blogs are working. So are the shops. That work has be done and is on time. After the celebration, July 4th, I will be putting the next leg in this structure - painting and ebay. This is all unknown territory and the anxiety for this is constant.

I am ironing out the wrinkles in the system I have built to post available art in the three galleries. First the gathering of the images with 30 days worth of postings in file folders. Next to put all necessary information on the image in the file folder so that it is reduced to a copy and paste operation. The addition of the PayPal button does not slow the procedure down too much as I put the necessary HTML code in the folder and put the button code into the folder and it is a simple copy and past operation, too.

The next wrinkle I need to press out is the blog information which will be an everyday thing on the Christmas and Halloween. Putting the information about the products on these blogs is the primary purpose and the linking of the available art with the active shop blogging. The GALLERY DU JOUR covers a much larger area and will have a variety of reflections in the corresponding blogs. To simply this is necessary before I get the process rolling in full. So that is where I am today.

COMPLETED GALLERY SITES

I have now completed building the galleries to place my existing art work in for purchase. I have created three galleries which will take my standing portfolio post a new image daily for quite some time.

Now, I am able to post images which are available for purchase on these galleries. I am using the PayPal Button and it is quite simple as all of the postings are just $100 plus shipping, $12.00. This is all on target for it opens the door for me to resume painting...as I wait for the butterfly!

POSTING CHRISTMAS ILLUSTRATIONS

Monday Morning Coming Down....
I am posting my Christmas illustrations which are available for purchase in
MARY PARKER CHRISTMAS GALLERY on Blogger. Each image that is posted here will be available with the PayPal Button for $100 plus shipping. Today was the first posting and it went off great; however, when I went to claim the blog on Technorati - wala - it says I have an invalid URL. Always something. That will just have to wait to investigate.

I have also been posting the
MARY PARKER HALLOWEEN GALLERY with available Halloween images and good old Technorati says that URL is just fine. Great.

Both of these Art Galleries will have daily postings of original illustrations from my portfolio. Images which are larger than these will be posted in an eBay store. That project is in the works but I need to get the everyday images up and operating in GALLERY DU JOUR. I have no idea if Technorati will acknowledge the URL which Blogger assigns me or not.

AVAILABLE Paintings/Illustrations

I have opened three new Galleries to handle the available paintings/illustrations. Because I have such a diverse portfolio and in such quanity, I have decided to open a gallery for Halloween, MARY PARKER HALLOWEEN GALLERY; for Christmas, MARY PARKER CHRISTMAS GALLERY; for the Everyday, Rustic Lodge, and Wild portfolios, together with some Mary Parker style illustrations, the GALLERY DU JOUR. I have been trying to iron out the system of posting and linking and gathering the work and coordinating it with the shops which will be using the same designs on products.

These are my first postings for Halloween:

Now, I have to do the same gathering, linking and posting to get the Christmas and du Jour paintings/illustrations available for purchase.

COUNTDOWN 'till July

I am trying to pull the sites together and prepare them for my program of posting and blogging the images available for purchase. I have created a Halloween Gallery, a Christmas Gallery and a Gallery du Jour for all other works. It will work with the use of the PayPay Buy Now button which I will apply to the various images as I post them daily from July through December. By starting this process early I am hoping to work out the wrinkles. So far I made two successful Halloween postings.

I have created a method of shipping which covers, the insurance, the materials, the PayPal charges and the mileages which I must make to be sure that the paintings/illustrations are in the right hands at either the UPS or the Post Office. These images will be offered for $100 plus $12 shipping.

This is the copy of the sales receipt which I have created to verify the sale and the image. It provides the design number, date, size, medium and in the case of the Mary Parker pseudonym, a pencil signature of mine, Edith on the illustration. I will indicate what the design was used for or licensed for if those records are in existence.

Site Completed

I am finished at last! Well, I hope I’m not really finished but I am finished with the work I had to do on this site to get it back in order and to have it where I can built on it. No one needs to hear about the mess, just that I am out of the stuff and on to the next mess.
My blog sites are all lined up and ready to start using. My shops are ready for me to start adding more products. And my original art in my standing portfolio is ready to open for sale.

Now, I will begin to build the shoes to match the designs which I have put in the shops and organize my day for PAINTING once more. I cannot believe that I am ready within just breaths of doing what I do best. Ah, but to attract the ‘butterfly’ and to feel the need once more. Waiting for that moment is the best. Of course I wonder if I will ever be able to render things as I did... but that is natural, I’ve read. Oh, well now to activate the various things I have built.

PS: The ‘butterfly’ is my way of describing the moment when something moves inside you and you know you will paint.

Activity is just around the corner

This day is well behind the time I had expected. Better late than never. So, here is where I am at this point. I have just created some Blogger sites on which I plan to open my standing portfolio. These original paintings and illustrations will be offered for sale using the PayPal BUY NOW button. I have not tried this and so it will be as all the other things, a brand new experience. I have such a large and diverse group of paintings and illustrations that trying to find a good way to market the original images has been quite a challenge. It will most likely be something that I have to re-do but here is where I am going to start. The following are the new sites and the descriptions will tie them together.

EDITH’S GALLERY DU JOUR is for the work which I have in these shops: SHOP DU JOUR, COBBLY NOB, WILD
I have created a blog for these shops called
PAINTING DU JOUR and I blog the new work and designs available in these three different shops.

I have created a Christmas blog for this area of work called
CHRISTMAS PIZZAZZ and it is active from July through December.

It had been a real challenge for me to put all of this together and try to organize it where people can look through the various places. Now, that I have this home base site, perhaps, I will be able to resume painting and get on with the excitement of the canvas.

My current project for this site is to create a links page. I have had the pleasure (and much delight) for
GREENBRIER VALLEY RESORTS AND REAL ESTATE to put me on their links page. I find their site a splendid place with real links to this wonderful place where I live. Laurie Contois who is the Owner/Broker of Greenbrier has been just wonderful to do this and it is greatly appreciated. My own links page is in the works and I shall return the favor.

Preparing Site for Work

I am trying to put this together and the problem is that it is unwieldily. The portfolio is very large and diverse. The plan was to configure the portfolio images to work on the various print on demand shops, sell the original works and paint new works in the manner and style which I have not been able to engage in because I was working commercially. This break, although desired, is hard to put together as I would like because I am not learned in the possibilities and the various ways those possibilities can be accomplished. No excuse. So I will see what today’s effort brings.

35,000 Year Old Sculpture

I read about this in Art Knowledge News. The following is a direct quote from the article:photo of Tuebingen, Germany sculpture discovery, Art Knowledge News

I am so fascinated by these discoveries and at the obvious link to modern man. Who are we, really? 35,000 years ago someone made a sculpture and it appears to have a loop on the back for possibly slipping a cord into so that it might be suspended or worn. And we continue to make images....

Original Art Work

I am preparing to place my original works from The Edith Collection Portfolio in shop for sale. This will be done in two ways. I will open a shop attached to this site and will follow with an eBay shop. The only hang-up at present is my own learning curve. Ha Ha But it will be accomplished one way or another. I seem to cause hang-ups all because I am not knowledgeable about the deeper process of building a site and perfecting the operation of the site’s software. I will just have to iron those wrinkles out as they come up. I do think that I could use a large bucket of courage from the Straw Man!
|

FeedBurner

The challenge of day is to get the Feedburner to work. FeedBurner says that it is not a valid site and I have entered this several times only to have it voided. So I must focus on this detail. Try to get everything functioning once more.
|

Twitter is now Returned to Blog

Although I would much rather have the Twitter, which I configured for this site page, a little different in the color arrangement, it does work. This is just another obstacle which I have cut down. Now to try and get the archive pages to vanish or rather clean up a bit.
|

Return to Work

Things seem to be in order at present. I am putting together a system which I plan to be able to use on a daily basis to promote my images, site, shops and blogs. This requires some careful thought and realistic projections.

I need to put a few more things together on this site to make it more efficient and directive to my plan. I hope to get those snippets in place today.

THANKS, BRIAN JACOBUS

Things are working at last. I should have done this from the start then so much time and effort and ultimately money would not have been lost and it was a lesson which I had already learned and applied without hesitation. When doing things differently or creating something new, it doesn’t mean that one should ignore the knowledge one has gained under different circumstances.

LOST MY FRIEND, PEPPER

This is not a good day for me. My friend, Pepper, a little dog with a lot of courage and a faithful companion (even when I was a pain in the -----) and who was with me for 16.5 years lost his battle to live forever. I just miss him and it has only be a few hours. I love dogs, you see. I need their companionship. In my heart always.Pepper, my friend

COBBLY NOB

I have been editing images for the rustic lodge shop, COBBLY NOB. I have discovered much to my pleasure that some of the ‘patch’ designs are working well in multiple product building. The vignettes in these designs often times are desirable as independent motifs for products. The designs I am using here come from theRUSTIC WOODS COLLECTION and from my FALL PORTFOLIO. I will be putting the seasonal images in which were built for this rustic look.

FRIDAY Updat on Shops

This entire week has been spent trying to decipher and change my shop’s appearance . They had to be fixed where guests and customers could find what they were interested in locating. I on the other hand, had not the foggiest how to go about taking care of the situation. So this week I have focused only on the shop HTML and tried to understand at least enough to give my shops a facelift. I did a fair job — considering. Other than this investment in time and purpose, there has not been much of anything interesting to others. I will be continuing to tighten this circumstance.

These are the shops with a better appearance:

CHRISTMAS DEPOT - HALLOWEEN NIGHT - WILD - SHOP DU JOUR - COBBLY NOB

I might say, and with great delight, that I have now installed the new RapidWeaver 4.2.2 . No matter how little one may know about HTML or CSS or the web, this beautiful program allows people like me to put their work on line and to begin to learn as they grow. And today, I am going to get the ‘payloom’ plug in from YOURHEAD/YABDAB and start the process of placing my original works for sale.

Images for PRINTS

I love bunnies and I love them to have tea in the images of my mind; but as they say, that ain’t all there is, Babe! I am currently putting rustic hunt images into my Gallery in ImageKind. The pictures below are an example of the work I am preparing for ImageKind. Although, ImageKind is a great place for prints, I am preparing to sell all the images in my portfolio and these are among the group which I will be posting in a short while. So if you are interested in the Rustic Woods Collection, as a potential buyer or just for curiosity, I would love to hear from you.

TEA TIME

Tea Time rabbit image
TEA TIME

Available as a card in A La Mode

This image was painted in about 1987. I did not know to make transparencies of my images at that time. Transparencies were the only way to save images which were used for reproduction purposes. As a result the only thing I have today is a transparency of a print! ARG Yes, I scanned in the print when I got my Epson Expression 1640 XL in 2000 but without extensive work the image was only good as an example. I used it as one of my cards during the 80’s and as a print when I created my card and print line at that time. When I started going to the SURTEX in 1990/91 I presented the original image and sold it. There ya go — gone forever. So to try and rework the scan was a rather tedious adventure that has taken me several days. I am not sure that it is as it should be yet because I am not really all that knowledgeable in Photoshop; however, I went over most of it, 98% of it, and this is the result. I reworked it at 200 and 300% of the original. Here is the way it looks from the scan of the print.

My learning curve is a nightmare; is a steady companion; is a ball and chain.... And I could go on and on about the problem. Well, I am taking this image and have placed it for cards in A LA MODE.It looks great. But trying to learn all of this and produce is not what I am accustom to having to contend with. Ah, but now I can always know that I have a very close GRIPE that will be with me for a long time. Company. Yes, company to keep me obsessively pressing against the limitation that not knowing BEANS about computers and how they work until one day when I just glide over the process and do it all right the first time.

Twitter

I have had a horrid time on this beast! But I will ride it into the earth before I give up on making it work right. The SITE here I am talking about. It has occupied all of my time and all because I don’t know from ‘shinola’. Nonetheless, I’m still riding.

Now, for the Twitter thing. I have the idea. I see what is happening. I love the mix. I have found a number of people with whom I have something in common and a beaucoup of them who are like the fish in the ocean. There are unreal numbers of guys involved with marketing and they are the ones who seem to be using the program most successfully not attaching to someone they find interesting but to anyone who’s game. Well, that is what it’s about, isn’t it? I, too, need to reach a large mass of people who do stuff on line. I am selling. Well, I am if I could get my ducks all in a row. So as soon as I reconfigure the widget to go on this site, that will be on less duck to worry about. I am making sales by default on CafePress and I need to get in there and make things move. The Twitter is now an access to more people and I think I will follow the guys who are gaining followers by the hundreds.

Still have to get the ducks lined up!

Exercise #2 Painting

Paint to brush #2

This is going to be interesting. I have to do a minimum of 50 of these warmups before I reach the place I feel like I will be able say that I am painting once more. This is like having been on the desert for 4 years and you’ve just reached the sand dune that is looking more like the oasis. I’ll be glad when I reach the oasis.

Big People Take Time

I was brought up by the code that the measure of one’s character was determined by how available he is to others. In other words the truly big people are never so busy or unreachable that they in their success cannot extend a helping hand or simply lend an ear to the circumstance of others. I want to say that I find that quality more frequently among the people who are associated with RapidWeaver and all their various contributing partners. I am an artist. I have never had any involvement with this fabulous thing called the computer or the web; however, I am placing all my efforts to learning and building my business in that direction — even at this point in time. I have had mistakes and lots of do overs but RapidWeaver people and related contributors are WONDERFUL people and fall into the category of really BIG PEOPLE. Thank you RapidWeaver! BRUSH IN PAINT

This has been an emotional dread. The need to start painting once more and confronting the encounter. I am trying to put this site together and it is draining all my mind. I’m obsessive. I want this to be put together right and I don’t know BEANS about the computer. What ever I do is intuitive and autodidactic. I have had some unfortunate happenings with the site. It has delayed my objective of returning to PAINT. I am an emotional roller-coaster anyway — you know the type. But I manage it. Well, most of the time anyway. I set a dead line for me to dip the brush into the paint and resume the obsession with pushing paint around. I just broke away, yesterday, and did that. The horror of the encounter was so big I dipped into a real downer. But I did get the brush into the paint and I did do something, even if it is not were I want it to be. Doing it was my accomplishment. I need for my obsessive drive to kick in and change my gears.

First attempt Brush to paint #1

|

Getting Ready for New Program

This is the first week in March. I am alining my program in order that I am able to commence my return to painting. I am having a difficult time reaching the place of encounter. I have not painted in any respect since spring of ’05. Then I created and painted 83 designs to present at the Surtex Show in May of 2005. There have been many obstacles and valid reasons why I have not been able to reach the brushes and even at this very moment, I could continue on that path. It is physiologically frightening and then again, compelling, and obsessing needful to reach. The feeling inside me to reach the table is compelling and yet the pit of my stomach is a light wave of nausea. I will deal with this. It doesn’t matter what I did yesterday, much less, in 2005. The gulf is painful. I need to encounter Today not Yesterday.

I have watched
Karin Jurick’s work and she is my inspiration. Her recent posting of “In Like a Lion” is the closest point to where my mind is and I need to baptize myself once more in the movement of paint. The boldness of stroke and color specks directly to my heart.
|

ADDING THE LINKS

For several days I will be adding links and sidebar information. Then I will continue to add some of the portfolio selections and new categories. This seems like a long process that keeps on getting longer. I have discovered that that is the case.
|

RE-PUBLISHING MY SITE

This is a challenge. But then most things worth having or doing is a challenge and I don’t expect that I will ignore challenges until I am horizontal. So until then I will get up, get dressed, dust myself off and start all over again. I do hope that this will re-publish successfully. Before I push that PUBLISH button I need to add a couple of galleries more to get a more complete overview of my portfolio. I want to let everyone know that this could not have been done if I had not have had RapidWeaver and the great web host, MacDock. It is so easy to talk to all those guys. And when I had a problem with one of the plug-ins, Collage, the help and response was immediate. It is a net work of great people doing exceptionally great things and they are accessible and kind to those who work on a different page — like me, an artist — a visual creature! After all, they build their products for all kinds of people and they haven’t forgotten what turns the wheel. SALES! Brother SALES!
